Halo

Spontaneous polish purchases are something that I don't do that often any more - for stash control purposes. Swatches of every shade are thoroughly scrutinised by me in an attempt to conclude whether I really want this polish or not. All the above did not refer to Orly Halo which I bought simply because I liked it on a nail wheel in a store. Oh, and it was on discount, too ;)

Orly Halo

Orly Halo is a transparent base full of golden glitter and bigger silver hexagones. It took me some time to realize that they are actually silver - and this is where the secret of this polish is hidden. Silver counterplays with gold, and all the thing glimmering - a nice effect is created overall. Now I can justify my spontaneous purchase - the shade was interesting enough to be in my stash :)

The application was ok, it's just the polish is quite transparent, so I needed 3 coats. I also covered it with a top coat, and it became even more shiny. Never seen halos, but they definitely could look like that :)

And my attempts to make the close-up shots. Uff I need a better camera... but just to describe it in 3 words: glitter, glitter, glitter. Me happy :)

I have a weird but persistent idea to mattify it.. it either will kill all the beauty or will make it look different but cool. What do you think?

Malibu Pirouette

*planned post; me discovering Athens*
Ever since I got OPI Pirouette My Whistle I was wondering which background colour to use when I will be trying it for the first time. In my head I listed all the possible combinations: over black, dark blue, lilac, and even yellow... Do you know that if you google the pics of Pirouette, you will mostly see it layered over grey? :) I really wonder why so... Anyways, I was almost ready to paint my nails black when I spotted that polish I had put out for pedicure... the teal.

American Apparel Malibu Green - to be precise. I just looked at it and thought "hmm, Pirouette over teal... interesting". I tried to google such a combination, but I didn't find anything worthy. So here it is, over teal.

OPI Pirouette My Whistle

By itself, OPI Pirouette My Whistle is small silver and larger hexagonal glitter in a transparent base. Perfect topping for many colours. The application was good as well, you just need to make sure that the hexagons are spread evenly, the small silver glitter self-evens by itself.

Without even expecting it, I loved both the Pirouette polish and the combination! You know, if it was not for those numerous swatches on the web, I would probably never grab a bottle of Pirouette My Whistle. Also, I'm planning to try it over all kinds of different colours! Maybe you could advise me, which colour would look great as a base for the Pirouette?
Me all ears! :)

Holo Glitter by Flormar

Another bling-blingy polish to show you : ) It might not be visible from the first sight, but it's a glitter, too. Nice wintery shiny glitter. Well, I warned you.. : )

Flormar 392

Meet the surprising Flormar #392: silver holographic glitter. The formula is quite thick, but you still need 3 coats to hide the VNL. I used this polish twice, and look, the bottle is already half-empty.. : { The bright side is that you can wear it long without chipping. The dark side is the removal.

The shade is very calm and decent in the day light...

As much as I hate taking pictures in the artificial light, I couldn't stop shooting : ) And couldn't stop staring at my nails too..! Generally, I very much recommend having it. Just for some bling.

Pupa + Glitter

Just found this random swatch on my phone.. And since small update is better than no update - I decided to post it : )

Layering mani: NYC Lights-Camera-Glitter (not to mix with NYX!) over Pupa #715. I was wearing it some time ago, right after after I tried Pupa alone. I also tried NYC glitter over mint creme polish for pedicure - gorgeous! - I'm going to recreate this combo on my hands too!

P.S. I'm still on my trip with minimum time and Internet to post, but I'm coming back soon and bringing some interesting stuff with me ;) Be ready!

Macro Sparkle

Without a doubt I'm gonna tell you: piCture pOlish Sparkle is the most interesting polish in my stash so far - texture-wise. It's also interesting by its origin, because it made its way directly from Australia, but it's another story : )

The texture is so enchanting that it desires some macro shots - so I thought. And although I'm not a fan of taking macro pictures because of my sad dry skin and cuticles, but this time I'll make an exception.
Firstly, the bottle close-ups:

Do you see?? You see this multicolour glitter swimming around and sparkling? Exactly this attracts me in this polish, and [supposingly] it's the reason why it was called Sparkle. The base is something special too: it's pearly-silvery white with a barely distinguishable lilac undertone, rather sheer.

Do you have polishes with "unusual" textures? Those you love staring at while wearing them? : )

More swatches (not so macro) of Sparkle you can find here

Nails In Foil

As usual, I'm posting the swatches of a limited edition in a very timely manner, i.e. after a year after its release : ) But that's me, and my blog is a very direct reflection of my personality. Anyway, today 2 pretty foils from Essence Nails In Style LE - a little flashback to the last summer.

The first one here on the pictures is Essence Style Me Love, a very thick and opaque warm purple foil - works per-fect for stamping by the way. One coat (!) on the pictures. Dries fast but chips even faster.

Close-up below. The "foil" actually consists of purple and silver shimmer, you can see the texture very well:

And now onto the second polish, Essence Style For Summernights, which is a tiny bit less interesting - I find. Just because you can find a silver foil everywhere now, and if you missed this LE of Essence you can grab Zoya Trixie or China Glaze Icicle or China Glaze Cheers To You. Or many others. Two easy coats, but my favourite thing is to mattify it. If you have foils, I do advise you to experiment with matte top coats, you'll love the effect :)

So, yay or nay to the foils? I know, the best season for them is winter, but I just can't switch to spring/summer shades. Not yet. What do you think?

Going Festive: Lorelei's Tiara - Home Made

Once I was sitting and thinking how stupid I was not to order China Glaze Lorelei's Tiara on time and trying to get it now it doesn't make any sense. So I decided to make out something similar using the polishes I have - I have said many times that the need is the mother of invention : ) The imitation came out quite poor, but at least I tried : ) Here are my attempts:

The home made Tiara is comprised of four layers of China Glaze Tinsel and one layer of OPI Simmer&Shimmer (I showed it here already). As you can see, what came out looks ok, but not any close to original Tiara. That means what? That I will still have to get it! *sigh*

*This is a planned post and while you are reading it I'm having fun with my friends in Belgrade. I will answer to all the comments as soon as I'm back! Greetings i pozdravi! : )

Disko Ball Nails

Last weekend I had a kinda important event that I had to attend - the official part of my graduation ceremony, previously we just had a huge party, and now we received our degrees. So I had to invent some festive nail look to match the occasion but at the same time to avoid exaggerations. I think I suceeded pretty well:

Now let's have a closer look: it's not a nail foil or a silver holographic as it might seem in the beginning. It's a little sandwich from Essie Fill The Gap, Zoya Trixie and Essence Hello Holo that makes my nails look silvery and blingy.

We had gloomy weather all these days, so I cannot show you how beautiful it all looks under the sun, but I still tried to catch the holosparkles:

And a little bonus pic. I don't have kitties or cats to use as a cute background, but I have something else ;) ;)
[Sorry for the quality, it was cropped from a bigger photo..]

Can't Cheat On Me

Some of you know that I don't have any special feelings for holo polishes. With some exceptions. This, for example:

Today I'm wearing one of such exceptions, Essence Can't Cheat On Me. Subtle silver not-really-a-holo with some iridescent particles and a nice formula. And it was on sale for 99 cents because (oh no!) it's gonna be discontinued. Pity.

Am I the only one who's rather indifferent to holos?
